Costa del Sol

Map Spain Spain has been incorporated as a full member of the European Union in 1989, since then Spain’s economy and infrastructure have highly profited from the European market.

Spain's holiday resorts at the Mediterranean Sea and the Canary Islands are Europe’s most famous holiday destinations and attract millions of tourists every year.

Spain's capital Madrid is located almost in the country's geographical center, in the state of Castilla y Leon. Spain is divided into several independent states of which Andalusia covers the southernmost part on the Mediterranean Sea.
Map Andalusia

Andalusia itself is divided into 8 regions, its most important cities are:

- Seville, the capital - must see: Cathedral, Plaza de España, university.

The Costa del Sol is best known of it's holiday resorts Torremolinos and Benalmadena Costa with a recently build beautiful yacht harbor, the new 1st address in nightlife; Fuengirola and the typical white Andalusian town Mijas located in the mountainside north of Fuengirola; and of course Marbella, the VIP address on the coast.

Malaga

Malaga, capital of the Costa del Sol has a rich and unique history. Founded by the Phoenicians, it has been inhabited by the Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans and the Moors, until it was re-conquered in 1487 by the Catholic Kings forming today’s Spanish territory.

Throughout the city many historical monuments stand as tokens to the rich legacy held by Malaga. Most notably are the Cathedral, the Alcazaba (Moorish Castle), the fortress Gibralfaro, and the Roman Theatre. Today Malaga is a cosmopolitan city with theatres, cinemas, museums and Spain's second largest harbor.

Malaga has inspired great poets and artists. The city's most famous son is Pablo Picasso who was born in Malaga in 1881.

His birthplace at the Plaza Merced has been converted into a museum honoring his life and work. Admission is free as well as access to all exhibitions: lifetime biography, art collection and video projections.

Quite recently a "Malagueño" left the Spanish movie scene behind to become a worldwide known Hollywood Star: Antonio Banderas. Despite his success the most likely place to meet him is Malaga (region), in Marbella.
Feria de Malaga

Feria de Malaga

People in Andalusia or known for their carefree lifestyle
, the most important thing is to meet friends and discuss everyday life while enjoying local food such as Tapas with a beer or red wine, preferably in one of the many bars by the beach.

This way of living is best reflected in the Feria of Malaga which takes place between the 2nd and 3rd weekend of August. It combines traditions with modern everyday live, locals dance Flamenco in the streets while others dance to house music in the clubs.
Feria de Malaga During the day everything happens in the city center until dusk at 21:00, then the real party begins outside town on a fairground until dawn at 09:00, and that is when the city center opens again.

After 10 days of continued festivities
and the ending celebrations on Sunday, people in Malaga take an extra holiday on the Monday after, it is called "Hang over day", in Spanish: "día de resaca".

Malaga itself offers various beaches where you will find only local people and of course lots of the typical Andalusian fish restaurants. The photo on the left shows Malaga´s main beach "La Malagueta".
This photo shows the beach next to our school. The sea is less than 100 meters away from us.

On the beach walk you will find many bars and authentic seafood restaurants, as well as the school´s bodega "La Tortuga", the place where we celebrate our welcome parties each Monday.
Malaga on the beach
Torremolinos Torremolinos is probably the best known holiday resort on the Costa del Sol. Over the last years the city decided to completely rebuild the 4km long beach walk. Today you can enjoy its new-won splendour, there is no more traffic passing by and it is much broader than before with lots of restaurants, bars and shops on either side.

The beach walk starts in Torremolinos city and ends in the new yacht harbor "Puerto Marina" in Benalmádena Costa, ideal for long walks by the beach.
The motto of Marbella is 'A Way of Life', and certainly this luxurious resort seems to have it all.

It is Spain's answer to St Tropez with well kept beaches, the famous "Puerto Banus" and the best night clubs around. The rich and beautiful can surely be found here.
Marbella
